Meet the Dancers

Lunaria Dance Theatre is comprised of female dancers dedicated to providing cabaret entertainment featuring dance theatre and raqs sharqi (Egyptian style belly dance).  Current company dancers include Alessandra, Amalia, Genevieve, Gevene, Jada, Shannon and Mellilah, the artistic director and group choreographer.

MELLILAH founded Lunaria Dance Theater as another outlet to feed her passion to choreograph and her new desire to step outside of the box of “Egyptian style bellydance.” She is a multi-award winning bellydancer and has been a prominent bellydance instructor since 2008. Mellilah has performed alongside The Commadors, has been featured in many of Seattle's iconic restaurants featuring bellydance and has graced the stages of Seattle and beyond. Mellilah most recently won Belly Dance Off: Round 1 2015! Lunaria not only feeds her soul, but gives her an opportunity to share and learn with other beautiful dancers. She is a company dancer, and the choreographer and artistic director of Lunaria Dance Theatre.

SHANNON first ventured into the world of bellydance in 2000, and has continued with the addiction ever since. She's performed both as a soloist, currently dancing at Marrakesh Moroccan Restaurant, and as a company member with a variety of groups, including Circle Dance Theatre, Anar Dana, the Blue Lotus Dance Company and Verbena Bellydance. She's excited to now be a part of Lunaria Dance Theatre! Shannon strives to continually learn and grow in dance, and she's thrilled to continue on that path working with the beautiful – inside and out! – members of Lunaria.

JADA, one of the original dance company members, is a fun loving and free spirited dancer from Austin, TX. During her 10+ years of bellydance experience, she has had the opportunity to learn from great instructors such as Neenah, Z-Helene, Stacy Lizette, Bahia and April Rose. Upon moving to the Pacific Northwest, Jada was thrilled to find a vibrant and open dance community. She is grateful to be continuing her dance journey with Mellilah and the Lunaria Dance Theatre. Jada is inspired by the joy and passion that is shared through dance and wishes to entertain, enliven and enamor her audience.

For ALESSANDRA, dance has been a lifelong passion and source of joy. When she was first introduced to bellydance in 2008 she fell in love instantly, and her journey through this creative and magical art form has continued ever since. Alessandra performs regularly throughout the Seattle area, including being a featured dancer at Spiro's Greek Island, Petra Mediterranean Bistro, and Harissa Mediterranean Cuisine. She is a certified instructor and has previously taught for LA Fitness, City of Seattle Parks and Recreation, Fresh Fitness and Dance, and the University of Washington's Experimental College. She is also the author of the popular bellydance blog, Sequins and Shimmies.

AMALIA, known for her exquisite undulations and layering, began performing at an early age with ballet and theatre. Her career in dance took off in 2002 as a company member of Rishi's Egypt Belly Dance Company. Since then she has performed at many of Seattle's iconic restaurants, such as Marrakesh and Harissa's. She holds a 1st place award from Emerald Rain Belly Dance Competition and performed with King 5's Evening Magazine with Rishi's Egypt Belly Dance Company, which was broadcast on the New Day Northwest show. She has made other film appearances in TV commercials and has even been in a music video. As a member of Lunaria Dance Theatre, she has found new inspiration and is excited to add dance theatre to her experience.

GENEVIEVE has been dancing in Seattle since 2007. Before that, she performed in the Boston area and began belly dance training in 1998. She has studied with Suzanna Davis and performed in her Egyptian version of Cinderella. In 2014, she studied with Ruby Beh and danced in her year-long project show Crescendo. In December 2015, Genevieve performed in Bellydance Jakarta’s 10th anniversary show and took Tamalyn Dallal’s teacher training in Bali. In January 2018, she will choreograph and perform a horror-themed dance in Kat Welsh’s annual show Horrific. She is honored to have been invited to join Lunaria in the fall of 2017 and is looking forward to collaborating with this great group.

GEVENE began her dance career in classical ballet and then quickly fell in love with Middle Eastern dance over 20 years ago.  She has studied with many of the West Coast’s top instructors and continues to pursue her love for dance education.  Gevene entertains audiences at many Seattle venues and was also featured with Rishi’s Egypt Belly Dance Company on TV.  She is delighted to be joining Lunaria Dance Theatre and can’t wait to bring her passion to the stage along side the talented members of Lunaria! Each performance brings new insight towards her growth and continues to inspire her.
